Location of the ASC 2001 Conference

The conference will be held on the campus of the University of British Columbia in the UBC Conference Center. The University offers accomodations at the Walter Gage Residence on campus.

For anyone who wishes to take advantage of this location, we would like to suggest visiting one of many museums on campus, including the world renowned Museum of Anthropology as well as botanical gardens, art gallery, and the state-of-the art Chan Centre for the Performing Arts. UBC offers many recreational opportunities which include an Aquatic centre with olympic-sized indoor and outdoor swimming pools, numerous tennis courts, and a golf course.  The campus is on a peninsula with access to many beaches with walkable sandy tidal flats exposed a low tide, and it is separated from the city of Vancouver by Pacific Spirit Regional park with more than 35 km of trails — all easily accessible from the conference center.

Vancouver, easily accessible by bus from campus, is a cosmopolitan city in a spectacular setting of ocean, river and mountains. The influences of many different cultures are reflected in the many different experiences offered by the cities neighbourhoods, cuisine and shopping opportunities.  Vancouver International Airport, served by more than 40-air carriers, is situated only 30 minutes by car from either UBC campus or downtown Vancouver.

Vancouver also provides a gateway to great vacation opportunities. Tourism BC offers a wealth of information on vacation options in the province of British Columbia.
