Location+Venue

The 2011 ASC Conference will be held at the Quality Inn Hotel and Conference Center in Richmond, Indiana. Alternative accommodation options are listed here. Located on Interstate 70, Richmond lies between Indianapolis to the west, and Dayton and Columbus, Ohio, to the east. As with many small cities, Richmond is rich with history. Once a thriving manufacturing center, the greater Richmond area is now known for its health care industry, educational institutions, developing historic district and a community supportive of the arts.

Quality Inn and Conference Center

Reid Hospital and Health Care Services boasts a two-year old, $300 million, state-of-the-art facility that is worth a visit for some of its design features. Indiana University East, one of the eight autonomous campuses of Indiana University, and Earlham College, a liberal arts college with Quaker roots, attract students and educators from around the world. Richmond is the original home of the Gennett Record Company, where the first jazz recordings in the country were made; a park/museum now memorialize this history. Locally owned and operated shops, galleries and eating establishments occupy old depot, warehouse and other buildings in the Historic District. Glen Miller Park is the site of events throughout the summer and a great place to walk and play, as is the Hayes Arboretum.

The Quality Inn and Conference Center is a short drive from Interstate 70 (exit 156A), on the historic National Road (Highway 40)—5501 National Road East in Richmond. Dayton International Airport is the most convenient airport to the hotel, a 35-minute drive along I-70. Indianapolis International Airport is about an hour and 20 minutes away, and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport is about an hour and a half drive (depending on the route).

Central Indiana and Ohio can be quite comfortable in August with temperatures in the seventies (°F — 21° to 26°C), although it can also get warm with temperatures in the eighties or low nineties (up to 33°C) by late afternoon. August tends to be a dry month, although some rain is not uncommon. Richmond (as well as Dayton, Cincinnati, and Indianapolis) is in the Eastern Daylight Savings (EDT) time zone in August.
