Edith K. Ackermann

 
Edith K. Ackermann is an Honorary Professor of Developmental Psychology, at the University of Aix-Marseille, France, and currently Visiting Scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology School of Architecture, Design Laboratory. She teaches graduate students, lectures, and consults for organizations and institutions interested in human learning, imagination, and creativity. She likes to work with designers, educators, and policy-makers committed to rethinking what it means be knowledgeable, literate, or skilled in today’s digitally saturated world—and what it takes to become so. Recent collaborations include LEGO Learning Institute, OLPC, INVIVIA, EU Projects PIAZZA and PUENTE, and the Exploratorium Science Museum, San Francisco, where she was granted an Osher Fellowship and “Outstanding Educator” Award in 2010. Previously, Ackermann was a Senior Research Scientist at MERL – a Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratory, Cambridge, MA; an Associate Professor of Media Arts and Sciences at the MIT Media laboratory, Cambridge, MA; a Scientific Collaborator at the Centre International d’Epistémologie Génétique, under the direction of Jean Piaget, and a Maitre-Assistant of Psychology, both at the University of Geneva, Switzerland. Ackermann earned a Doctor of Developmental Psychology [Com Laude] (1981); two Master’s degrees in Developmental Psychology and Clinical Psychology (1970); and a Bachelor of Experimental Psychology degree (1969), all from the University of Geneva, Switzerland.
