At ASC, we are dedicated to fostering the advancement of cybernetics and its promotion. ASC Initiatives play a central role in achieving this mission, focusing on creating opportunities for collaboration, research, and knowledge-sharing within the field. They include events, working groups, and projects.
Virtual conversations on cybernetic topics from a diverse group of theorists and practitioners.
Formats alternates between interviews, presentations, conversations, and more. They are typically held on the third Sunday of each month at 12:00 EDT.
A revival of the original Macy Meetings, the trans-disciplinary conversations at the founding of Cybernetics in the 1940s and 1950s, redefined for the 21st century to include trans-global and trans-generational participation.
Aiming at gathering, managing and making ASC and Cybernetics Archives accessible, this group is also looking at ways for creating or collaborating with a global group on Cybernetics Archives that transcends organizational boundaries.
At the AMC Working Group we explore the evolving intersections of cybernetics, art, and science, building on mid-20th-century movements where artists and cyberneticians pioneered conceptual and collaborative approaches. Through panel discussions, online events, and a growing index of artists, theorists, and key concepts, we examine how cybernetic thinking continues to shape art and media in today’s technological and ecological landscape.
We aim to advance cybernetics in artistic practices, foster interdisciplinary dialogue, and connect students, practitioners, and researchers in rethinking art as a reflexive system.
Join us in shaping new conversations at the intersection of systems thinking and creative practice!
