In our theatre ‘natural-looking’ behavior is subjected to contortions, subversions and convolutions, letting ‘what’s natural’ show its socially constructed face. These often humorous embodied compositions allow paradox to arise, leaving the viewer to rename the undeniably live and familiar events.
Our work has been described as “Surreal Vaudeville…One is reminded of silent film comedians and European circus clowns, who hone their material to its essence.” (The New Orleans Times-Picayune)
A statement we think about comes from Herbert Marcuse; “The critical function of art, its contribution to the struggle for liberation, resides in the aesthetic form. A work of art is authentic or true not by virtue of its content (i.e., the ‘correct’ representation of social conditions), nor by its ‘pure’ form, but by the content having become form.”
