International Airports within 2 hours drive from Asilomar are San Jose International (SJC) and San Francisco International (SFO). There is also a regional airport, Monterey Peninsula Airport (MRY) just 20 minutes drive north of Asilomar, with connecting flights to both international airports.
SFO (San Francisco International Airport)
International attendees are likely to travel to Asilomar via San Francisco / SFO. Most major airlines serve this international airport.
Renting a Car in SFO
Most major rental car companies, including Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Fox, Hertz, National and Thrifty serve the SFO. The car rental counters are located on the fourth floor of the SFO Rental Car Center.
To access the Rental Car Center from the airport terminals, take the AirTrain Blue Line. AirTrain, SFO’s fully automated people mover system, operates 24 hours every day and provides convenient and frequent service throughout SFO. AirTrain stations are located in all terminals, terminal parking garages, the Rental Car Center and SFO’s BART station.
From the Rental Car Center, there is quick access to the highway. SFO is actually located in South San Francisco, outside the San Francisco city limits.
SJC (San Jose International Airport)
San Jose International (SJC), locally called Mineta, is located at least 30 minutes closer to Asilomar than San Francisco International (SFO). It is a smaller and newer airport than SFO that has some international flights (primarily to Mexico) and many domestic connections.
Renting a car at SJC
To access the rental car shuttle at San Jose Airport Terminal B passengers can walk directly across Airport Drive at the crosswalks from baggage claim to reach the Rental Car Center. Passengers arriving at Terminal A may take any Airport blue shuttle bus to the Rental Car Center. Rental customers departing from Terminal A can take the marked Inter-terminal Shuttle (blue bus) from the Rental Car Center to Terminal A. (Terminal A contains the International Arrivals section. Terminal B is entirely Domestic flights.)

Airport shuttle bus from SFO or SJC to/from Asilomar
Monterey Airbus offers service from SFO and SJC to Asilomar and also back to the airports. This is the only carrier that drops off or picks up at Asilomar and is recommended by Asilomar. Phone Monterey Airbus (831) 373-7777
The rates provided on the website are for Monterey, the drop off/pick up fee for Asilomar Conference Grounds is an additional $15.00 per reservation, each way as it is considered an additional door-to-door service.
Monterey Airbus has a full schedule 7 days a week. Pick up at Asilomar Conference Grounds is scheduled 30 minutes prior to each Monterey shuttle departure and must be booked either online or via telephone at least 24 hours in advance.

MRY (Monterey Peninsula Airport)
The local Regional Airport, just 20 minutes drive from Asilomar, is Monterey Peninsula Airport (MRY).
Regular flights are available to the international airports of San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Denver and Las Vegas. The Monterey Peninsula Airport offers a convenient and hassle-free experience. Boarding time and security checks are quick and efficient and offers long-term parking. Several Rental car companies are available at MRY.
A few carriers serve MRY from Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO) or Denver (DEN) and may be accessible through the websites of major carriers for the additional travel segment into MRY.
