Bolton is a mill town on the northern edge of Manchester, home of the Industrial Revolution and incidentally home of British computing. Following the rebirth of Manchester as a successful, vibrant hub (with a well-connected, international airport), Bolton is a town in redevelopment. It was (first) the town studied through Mass Observation, as “worktown”. It is beautifully situated near some of the finest land- and seascapes in the British Isles. The University of Bolton has one of the few departments in the world explicitly named for cybernetics, the Institute for Educational Cybernetics. The ASC and the IEC collaborate as conference organisers.

The conference will be held in high quality, newly built facilities at the University of Bolton. We expect that many of the University’s facilities will be available to attendees (for instance, the swimming pool).
