The city centre of the revitalised metropolis, Manchester, is 15 minutes away by train. Home to Manchester United and Manchester City football clubs, test cricket, the Hacienda club (and many others), the Hallé Orchestra, Universities, and Musea. The outstanding Manchester Museum of Science and Industry houses (amongst other things) many objects from early computing in Britain. Alan Turing worked at Manchester University after the Second World War, until his death, and Stafford Beer was Professor of Management at the Manchester Business School.
