Biographical Info: Sylvia Rabeler Skok is a color and composition theorist as well as a painter and hybrid artist. Her current research centers on conceptual color (vs. perceptual color), composition in “observation space,” and color-mathematics. She recently introduced Chroma-G (chroma-generative composition) modeling. She has also introduced Cybernetic Scrying and Lacing. Cybernetic Scrying is a reflective and reflexive methodological approach to painting and Lacing is an acrylic paint application technique.
Sylvia Skok studied art and design at Pratt Institute for two years, then worked in the computer industry before returning to academics. In 1993, she earned her BA in Biology and Honors Psychology at Potsdam College, SUNY, focusing on color perception. She earned her PhD (2014) and MS degree (1997) in Systems Science (the science of modeling systems, i.e. compositions) at Binghamton University. She is currently serving as Treasurer of the American Society for Cybernetics.
